AI policy examples

In brief

National AI policies set out how a government means to develop, use and govern AI. 108 are on record from 100 jurisdictions; the most recent include National AI strategy (in development) (Panama); National AI Policy (2025) (Zimbabwe); National AI Strategy (2025) (Côte d'Ivoire); Plano Brasileiro de Inteligência Artificial 2024-2028 (Brazil) and National AI strategy (in preparation) (Cambodia). For an organisation's own AI policy, the rules staff follow when they use AI, see the company AI policy template below.

Frequently asked questions

What is an example of a national AI policy?

National AI strategy (in development) (Panama) is one of the most recent on record. Panama has been developing a national AI strategy with UNESCO support, covering governance and ethics, public-sector adoption, talent, data infrastructure and the logistics and financial sectors.

What is the difference between an AI policy and an AI law?

A national AI policy or strategy states aims and plans and binds no one by itself. An AI law (an act, regulation or binding rule) creates duties with legal force. Each record on this site says which it is, and whether it binds anyone.

What should a company AI policy include?

Its scope, the AI tools staff may use, uses that are not allowed, rules for data and confidential information, disclosure of AI use, training, reporting and enforcement, and a review cycle. The free company AI policy template on this site has those sections and cites the duties they serve.
