Texas signs the Responsible AI Governance Act (TRAIGA), effective 1 January 2026

The Governor signed HB 149, banning AI intended to manipulate people into self-harm or crime, government social scoring and certain biometric uses, requiring government AI disclosure, and creating a sandbox and AI council with Attorney General enforcement.

Practical impact: Developers and deployers serving Texas should screen for prohibited intents and document NIST-aligned governance to use the statutory defences.
